So, how to make a milkshake?

The secret of balanced taste and light creamy consistency of milkshake – in a thorough beating of all components. You will need a blender, mixer, or shaker to form tiny bubbles inside the drink. Condensed milk will help to enrich the taste of traditional milkshakes. A unique spicy aroma will add spices: vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, or a pinch of cocoa. Milkshake is a natural drink – reformer, and it is an essential skill to make it today. It conquered the hearts of millions of people due to its simplicity, ease of preparation, and delicious taste. So, if you want to find a way to make a delicious milkshake, it would be better to start its history.

HISTORY OF MILKSHAKE

The term “Milk cocktail” was first used in 1885 in England. It was a whiskey and eggnog cocktail (a sweet drink based on raw chicken eggs and milk). For most of us, the well-known milkshake ordinary was first made only in 1922 in a small network of Walgreens pharmacies in the USA. Ivan Coulson was trying to improve chocolate malt. He mixed two servings of ice cream with milk and a chocolate milk powder drink. At this moment, Ivan didn’t know he made a reformation and made history.

The time was going on, and the ordinary way of making a milkshake was difficult. Whipping up a thick ice cream takes much more time and energy than a regular martini cocktail. The milkshake prompted humanity to create another important invention – the electric blender. Today blender is a thing which we use every day for everything. Still, in 1922 Stephen J. Poplavsky created the blender specifically for milkshakes, which became much easier to prepare with its introduction.

And the last element in the chain of increasing popularity was Ray Kroc – the seller of electric blenders and paper cups. In the 1950s, Kroc sold the mixers to Richard and Maurice McDonald (yes, by doing so). The history of McDonald’s began not with burgers but with milkshakes. The restaurant of the two brothers already had severe potential, in connection with which Croc was recognized as one of the first owners of the franchise. As a result, he became the owner of the entire blender company and led it to worldwide growth.

Today the milkshake is famous for its taste and many cooking options. You can use completely different ingredients for a delicious milkshake. There are many cocktail options: strawberries, raspberries, caramel, oreo, marshmallow, persimmon, and even durian.

TOOLS FOR MAKING A GREAT MILKSHAKE

The nice thing about making milkshakes is that you don’t need to have a lot of equipment. A blender and ice cream scoop would be enough to make a delicious home milkshake. If you want to copy a milkshake from your favorite café, you have to buy a malt machine. Malt machines were designed primarily to add oxygen into milk and ice cream. On the internet is a wide range of devices in different price ranges. One disadvantage is the inability to add and blend up cookies or fruits.

SHOULD MILK BE BOILED FOR MILKSHAKES?

As for milk, you can take it fresh or pasteurized. For children, it is best to use fresh. You do not need to boil pasteurized milk, but raw milk should be cooked in a separate small saucepan over medium heat. As soon as the milk begins to foam over the saucepan, stir it quickly with a spoon and turn off the gas. Both pasteurized and boiled milk must be refrigerated before use. Pasteurized milk can be chilled for about 10-15 minutes. Now you should cool boiled milk for about 30 minutes. It is better to prepare milk in advance.

WHAT CAN YOU USE INSTEAD OF MILK IN A MILKSHAKE?

If you don’t have milk at home, you don’t have to rush to the store to drink your cocktail. You can use yogurt, lactose-free milk, or vegetable milk as a base. All of these are great milk substitutes and add extraordinary flavor to your milkshake.

As for ice cream, if you’re making a smoothie with fruits, it’s best to use 100% ice cream, only creamy. In cases with a classic milkshake, you can experiment with additions of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and others.

But as for me, it’s pretty dull. By simply adding different ingredients each time, you can invent more and more new flavor variations that will never repeat each other. Experiments can be very different, from adding cookies and fruits to adding salty or even acidic ingredients.

DOES ICE THICKEN A MILKSHAKE? OPTION TO CONSIDER

Definitely yes, the ice thickens the milkshake. Thanks to the fine crumbs, the glaze adds thickness to the structure of the drink. It is not necessary to use regular ice. A great option would be to use frozen fruits, berries, cream, or yogurt. With them, the milkshake will turn out to be very tasty and thick.

HOW TO MAKE A MILKSHAKE WITHOUT A BLENDER?

You want a delicious milkshake-like in your favorite cafe, and there is no blender at home, do not worry. There is a recipe to help you make a delicious shake without a blender.

Recipe

Tools: Container with lid or shaker

Ingredients:

  • Milk – 100 Milliliters
  • Ice cream – 300 Grams
  • Syrup (strawberry, raspberry, maple) – To taste

Process:

Step 1. Take ice cream and place it in a container. Since you don’t have a blender, use slightly melted ice cream. Thanks to this, you will be able to prepare an airy cocktail. If you use ice cream with a dense consistency, you will get a creamy cocktail. However, mixing the ingredients will be more difficult.

For ice cream to acquire the required consistency, let it melt at room temperature for 10-15 minutes, or reheat in the microwave for 20 seconds.

You can also use frozen yogurt or sorbet instead of ice cream.

Make ice cream. Homemade ice cream tastes great and has the right texture for a cocktail.

Step 2. Add milk. Pour milk into a container on top of the ice cream. Stick to the following proportion: Mix three parts ice cream and one part milk.

Like ice cream, the consistency of the milk affects whether or not you make a creamy shake. If you want a creamy shake, use thicker and thicker milk.

If you are adding dry powder such as malt or protein powder, mix it with milk first.

If you have a bottle with a whisk, use it to mix the powder and milk.

Step 3. Add other ingredients. If you want to add fruit or syrup to your milkshake, do so by placing them in a milk/ice cream mixture.

If you add fruit or candy pieces to your smoothie, crush them in a bowl or use a mortar and pestle to grind the ingredients mentioned above. Do this before adding them to the container. This allows you to mix the ingredients effortlessly.

Step 4. Crush and stir with a spoon. Before shaking the ingredients thoroughly, take a spoon and mix the contents of the container well. Doing this will distribute the ingredients evenly and soften the ice cream.

When you see that there are no ice cream lumps left and your drink has the desired consistency, you can stop mixing the main ingredients.

Step 5. Close the jar or container with a lid and shake the container well. Do this carefully so that the milk, flavor, and ice cream mix well together, and you get a mass of uniform consistency.

Shake container well. Hold the container firmly on both sides and shake it well.

Shake the container for 15 seconds. You can continue to shake the container of ingredients until you get the mass you want.

Step 6. Enjoy your milkshake. After shaking the container thoroughly, remove the lid, grab a straw and taste the cocktail. If your shake is too thin, add another scoop of ice cream. If it’s too thick, add some milk and shake well again.

Once you have a drink of the desired consistency, grab a straw or spoon and enjoy the taste! Bon Appetit!

How do you make a malted milkshake?

Recipe

Tools: Blender

Ingredients:

  • Milk – 1 Cup
  • Malted-milk powder – 6 spoon
  • Vanilla ice cream – 1 pint
  • Chocolate or strawberry ice cream – 1 pint
  • Malted-milk balls, for garnish – To taste

Processing chain:

Step 1. In a blender jar, combine 1/2 cup milk and 3 tablespoons malt powder and process until the malt is dissolved. Blend in half of the vanilla ice cream until smooth. Add the remaining vanilla ice cream, 1 scoop at a time, while the machine is running until combined.

Half of the shake should be poured into a glass measuring cup and placed in the freezer. Store the remaining half of the cake in two glasses and put them in the freezer. Allow 10 minutes for chilling before moving on to step two.

Step 2. In a clean blender jar, combine the remaining 1/2 cup milk and the remaining 3 tablespoons malt powder and process until the malt is dissolved. Blend in half of the chocolate (or strawberry) ice cream until smooth. Using the mixer, slowly drizzle in the remaining ice cream, one scoop at a time, until thoroughly blended.

Half of the shake goes into two empty glasses, and the rest goes into the two partially filled glasses from the freezer. Freeze the half-filled glasses for 10 minutes. Before filling off the remaining glasses, stir the reserved vanilla shake. Serve immediately with malted milk powder and malted milk balls, if desired. Bon Appetit!

MOST COMMON RECOMMENDATIONS

– for a cocktail, you need to take milk with lower fat content. Fatty milk makes the finished product heavier, and the foam settles quickly.

– milk must be cold! Only with cold ingredients is the so desired foam whipped and then lasts for a long time. The foam stayed for me all the time while I was photographing – about 10 minutes, and then another 5-7 minutes while removing everything from the table.

– as I wrote above in the recipe, you can either freeze the milk in the freezer or use cold milk and ice. Then a stable foam will be provided.

– if you are using ice cream, then do not take the ice cream! You need regular milk or cream ice cream. Its fat content is lower than that of ice cream. Therefore, the foam will also last longer.

This recipe is the foundation. If desired, you can add any syrup to the cocktail to give the appropriate taste, melted and chilled chocolate, various fruits, and berries. In general, do as your heart desires. It is also delicious with jam and honey, but in this case, it is better not to add sugar at all. Otherwise, it will be luscious.

ARE MILKSHAKES BAD FOR YOU?

I don’t think so. Maybe if you are looking after your body, drinking milkshakes every day can cause adding a few extra pounds. But you can use skim milk, and the effect will not be as devastating.

HOW TO MAKE A MILKSHAKE PRESENTATION?

Chill the serving glasses in advance by placing them in the freezer for several hours. Then, randomly, use a brush or spoon, apply a little jam, preserves, or thick syrup to the walls of chilled glasses. Place the glasses back in the freezer until the drink is served. Bon Appetit!
